Did you know that an apple’s skin has hair growth potential? An apple’s skin has a compound called Procyanidin B-2. It has been found that this compound acts as a natural hair-growing factor. In a double-blinded clinical study of 29 subjects, nineteen men in the group were given Procyanidin B-2 and 10 men in the group were given the placebo. The researchers measured the hair-growing effects by using macrophotography technique combined with measurements of the hair diameter of clipped hairs. After six months there was significantly greater hair growth in the Procyanidin B-2 group than the placebo group subjects. It showed an increase in the total number of hairs and terminal hairs in the procyandin B-2 group subjects which was significant over the control groups. In hair diameter, 78.9% of subjects showed an increase in growth from their mean value.

In several studies, Procyanidin B-2 has shown to promote hair growth by down regulating the active and the resting growth phase. Procyanidin B-2 regulates the anagen phase by prolonging it for the growth results and decreasing the telogen phase when hair is not actively growing.

Japanese researchers also released a study in 2005 where procyandin therapy was proven successful in regrowing hair. Their studies confirmed the findings of clear improvement in the number of hairs and the density of hairs in the treated area. The trial extended for 12 months which showed that a longer term procyanidin therapy was even more successful than the prior four to six months trials.

Apple Poly, LLC utilized the products from the 2005 findings from the Japanese researchers and investigated each ingredient for its value in hair growth. After careful review, they decided to first improve their formula by adding all three procyanidin oligomers B-2, B-3 and C1. This decision was made because research showed procyanidin B-2 and procyanidin C1 had a great affect on the growth of hair but at different intervals of the hair cycle. In some cases, procyanidin B-3 showed even better results than procyanidin B-2 in various testing. It was also shown that the effects of procyanidins were dose-dependent which means the higher the concentration, the better the results. So with this knowledge and combined with the fact that procyanidins are thoroughly tested safe, and produce zero irritation or unwanted side effects, the researchers quadrupled the procyanidin strength.

This new formula has produced “alarming” hair growth results. Clients taking apple procyanidins internally in capsule form continued to report thicker hair, new hair growth at the hairline, eyelash hairs growing longer and eyebrow hairs growing back, and growing darker!

The promising hair growth therapy you have been waiting for is NOW here! If you have tried a multitude of remedies to grow your hair, this therapy can boost your current hair growth with thicker longer hair!

One of the interesting studies done in France showed that apple procyanidins triggered cell apoptosis (cell death) in cancer cells. This was especially seen in cancer cells that occur in the colon. Similar studies done in Germany showed that the more apple procyanidins that were present, the more inhibitory effects were seen in colon cancer cells.

By showing natural anti-cancer activity, apple procyanidins not only help in the prevention of cancer but researchers may find new ways to use them in the treatment of cancers. This is certainly a big step forward in more natural ways in preventing cancer.

Since apples are already high in fiber, this adds to the list of many beneficial ways that apples help in digestion.

This is just one of the many different benefits that have been scientifically proven in apple polyphenols. More than likely, apple procyanidins are something that health food manufactures and supplement companies will be adding to their lineup. The first ones to do so will definitely have a leg up in the marketplace for advertising the benefits to the public. Apple procyanidins is something that companies like Kashi could add to cereals. They would be really great in protein bars and other meal replace bars as well.

If anyone has been watching or reading real news lately (not mainstream media), you would have noticed that a company in Okanagen British Columbia called Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc. has developed (genetically engineered) a new breed of apple known as the arctic apple. It was very clever to name it the “arctic apple” associating the white of the arctic with an apple that stays white. How do they do it? They remove specific apple polyphenols. The apple polyphenol that they remove is called Polyphenol Oxidase. They do so via genetic modification. They stop the polyphenol from being made by turning off the gene that produces it. Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc. tries to differentiate themselves from the other companies that create genetically modified crops by introducing genes from other species. This in itself is misleading.

The definition of genetic modification… is common sense. The modification of genetics. That is exactly “textbook definition” of what Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc has done. Modifying a specific gene to not produce a certain apple polyphenol… genetic modification plain and simple.

What is Polyphenol Oxidase? Polyphenol Oxidase is the same antioxidant that turns tea brown. Green tea is made by drying out the leaves so that Polyphenol Oxidase becomes in-active, its still there. By allowing Polyphenol Oxidase to continue oxidizing the tea leaves, we get great teas like oolong and black tea. Black tea has antibacterial properties that are very, very beneficial.

Polyphenol oxidase works the same way in apples by producing antibacterial properties. These antibacterial properties are the apple’s natural defense against infections and work in other fruits by minimizing and localizing the infection.

Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc is removing these apple polyphenols for business profits.

The company begins trying to justify the removal by saying that it would be beneficial in the dried fruit market where they would normally use metabisulfites (chemicals that causes an allergic reaction in some people) in the dehydration process. With the arctic apple they wouldn’t need to use these chemicals. So that is one actual benefit.

Looking at the big picture though it all about business. Don’t be fooled. It always comes back around to business profit with genetic modification.

The facts:

By genetically modifying this apple, they would “own” the patent on this apple crop.

It costs millions of dollars to do genetic research, develop this crop and plant the crop with an expectation of a return on their investment.

There is nothing in place to keep these genetically modified apples from cross pollinating (infecting in this case) other species of natural apples.

If this happens, legally since they “own” the crop, they can sue farmers for selling apples that have their modifications spread to them. We have seen this happen with Monsanto who has sued farmers for millions because Monsanto’s corn infected the farmers corn. (Its completely backwards). I’m not saying Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc will… but they can.

If for some legal reason they can’t, there is still the serious issue of these apples infecting other apple species. Once that is done there is no reversing the damage its permanent.

What would the problem be if arctic apples infected other species of natural apples?

In an interview with Neal Carter (President of Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc) he specifically states that “…getting rid of this antioxidant would change the game quite a bit” when referring to the success of fresh cut produce. See the interview at ThePacker.com

For one, bringing an apple to success in the fresh cut fruit market place, does not justify the removal of this antioxidant. (That’s like saying “lets remove vitamin c from oranges…” for some business profit). It’s an absurdity.

Science is no where near understanding the full scope of what certain antioxidants, including apple polyphenols, do and do not do. They simply remove the antioxidant because they know of one thing that it does and removing it benefits business, not us.

Maybe its just me, but the other reason that I eat apples (besides the fact they taste good) is for the health benefits. So if companies start removing the health benefits from natural food for business purposes, what’s the point in eating them? No one really cares that a section of their apple might turn slightly tan after a few minutes they still eat it, I do.

I also prefer to cut my own fruit because then I know that someone with dirty hands hasn’t contaminated the fruit I’m about to eat. The skin on fruit, protects the fruit the same way our skin does. I don’t need nor want grocery companies cutting my fruit for me and charging extra for it. Let alone another company (Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc) removing beneficial antioxidants from my fruit so that grocery companies can do so.

As mentioned before the removal of any beneficial antioxidant from apples is an absurdity. Okanagen Specialty Fruits Inc is doing so strictly for business purposes without knowing the full scope of the impact it will have. Removing antioxidants from food for cosmetic/business purposes is something that shouldn’t even be on the table… pun intended.

Apple polyphenols consist of very beneficial natural chemicals. Some of these natural chemicals include:

Quercetin: A flavonol found in some fruits that has anti-cancer properties and protects the health of cell of cell structures. Quercetin has anti-inflammatory properties and protects the cardiovascular system.

Procyanidin B-2: Has been shown to stimulate the hair re-growth cycle. Both regrowing lost hair and improving current hair health. Also shows anti-inflammatory properties.

The other wide range of polyphenols and antioxidants contained in apple polyphenol supplements protect cells, fight disease and improve overall health functions of the body.

Apple polyphenols work for us… much like they work for apples. The individual properties that protect the skin of the apple and uphold the internal health of the apple (keeping the apple nice and fresh) can do the same for us as well.

Apple polyphenols have very positive effects on our digestive health. Multiple studies show that the materials it contains help fight disease naturally and help reverse some damage. (Supplements of apple polyphenols also contain natural fiber).

Logical, healthy life habits and supplementing with apple polyphenols will provide many benefits.

For example… taking apple polyphenols and then continuing to smoke is counter productive. Anyone doing this will most likely not receive any benefits. This would obviously apply to eating very unhealthy foods and not taking care of oneself. Taking any beneficial natural substance will not make up for unhealthy choices. (Its like going for a 5 mile run… then eating an entire box of donuts, its simply counter productive).

On the other hand… exercise, eating healthy and taking care of our bodies… plus the beneficial effects of supplements like apple polyphenols will will give us the extra health boost that we’re looking for. Its a rather simple concept to most of us but its surprising to see how many people don’t actually understand natural health.

If your into natural health and supplements, leave a comment below with some natural health tips or… tell us your favorite thing about apple polyphenols.

This is my own personal review of apple poly. I started taking apple poly over a year ago and took it continuously for 6-7 months. The results were very noticeable for me. The first thing that I noticed was that my muscle strength was much greater (there was no muscle size increase, but strength increase) I believe this works by increasing the density of the muscle fibers. The denser the muscle the stronger the muscle is. (strength isn’t necessarily in relation size).

Skin conditions improved as well. My skin seemed much healthier and acne wasn’t as much of a problem. Skin conditions would improve since apple polyphenols from fruits are the materials that protect the fruit and would also protect our skin just as it does the apple’s. Energy was another benefit. This is likely because of the positive effects apple polyphenols have on the digestive system. Normally, people have more energy the cleaner and healthier our digestive system is. The body’s ability to effectively use plant material (especially pure apple polyphenols) is very efficient and directs the polyphenols where they are needed.

Soon after, I also noticed small white hairs where bald spots were. A few months later those small white hairs grew longer till there was 2 layers of hair. The hair I had and a new fuzzy layer underneath. (This was much better that just the fine hair I had before, so it was some progress). After that time period there were a few months where I decided to take a break from taking apple poly since it seemed to be working. Unfortunately, the hair growth process was not finished and the new white hairs remained but didn’t continue to grow as quickly as they had arrived. (Basically, I stopped the hair growth process right in the middle of progress). If experiencing new hair growth, I highly recommend continuing until your individual hair growth process has completed. (Lucky for everyone else, I use myself to test on and report the results). This way you can get an idea of what to expect from apple polyphenols.

It is also important to remember that there is no single substance on this planet that will work exactly the same way for everyone. According to our own individual genetics, metabolisms and health…we will all receive results differently. Some people may have results from apple poly much quicker than I did and some may take longer or relatively the same time period. The possibilities are as numerous as there are people and the many benefits of apple polyphenols are too great to ignore. Science wouldn’t spend millions in research studies on apple polyphenols if they didn’t see the possibilities. Recently some big names like Kraft and Nestle have been investing in apple polyphenol studies to add the benefits to some of their product lines.

The reason I decided to take apple polyphenols was for hair growth. (I am now taking them again until I get the full results of hair growth and go from there). The best way for me to find results was with personal trial and error. This is the best way to do any review.

Not everyone takes apple poly for hair growth. Fat loss is another great benefit. Apple polyphenols also have the ability to displace body fat and help metabolize it quickly. This is the body fat that many people have a hard time losing just through exercise. I had a small amount on the bottom portion of the abdominal muscles and within a few weeks this fat had decreased dramatically. Combined with exercise and healthy food choices apple polyphenols can work overtime and work very well. (This was an extra benefit for me). Eating cake and chips would be counter productive and sabotage healthy results. It’s also important to note that apple poly only contains pure apple polyphenols. Other companies have fillers and additives in their brands.

Some people may want to take apple poly just for the extra health benefits. These include weight loss benefits (getting rid of body fat) digestive benefits like decreasing colon cancer risks greatly, increased energy and anti aging properties (we receive the same protective benefits that apples get). They also create an environment in the body that removes free radicals thus reducing the risk of disease. Ultimately, we can be “as healthy as apples are”. So for whatever reason you decide to take apple poly, many benefits are available. If you have had good results with apple poly be sure to leave your own apple poly reviews and results below in the comments.

Quercetin is a type of flavonoid that is commonly heard of when talking about apple polyphenols. It’s not just found in apples, quercetin is also found in other fruits and vegetables like onions and grapes… plants that contain high amounts of antioxidants and polyphenols. Quercetin, much like ellagic acid, also provides protection against cancer. Both aid in cell apoptosis, protect against disease and DNA damage. Quercetin also has anti-inflammatory capabilities.

Quercetin is linked to:

Reduction in cancer causing factors like free radicals

Promoting heart health

Protecting against cardiovascular disease like asthma

Promoting healthy colon functions and health. (especially beneficial concerning colon diseases).

Apple polyphenol extracts contain many different types of polyphenols and antioxidants that benefit the body. Quercetin and all of its benefits are found in apple polyphenols. In apple polyphenol studies, quercetin is one of the most commonly mentioned antioxidants.

When looking for natural supplements that contain phyto chemicals like quercetin, it’s important that the supplement or extract is %100 natural with no fillers. Processing of the supplement and additives will cause the chemicals like quercetin to be diminished. High quality supplements will always have the most benefits.

Ellagic acid has really interested the scientific community in the last few years. It can be found in fruits like raspberries, strawberries, grapes, pears, peaches, kiwi and of course apples. The reason that ellagic acid has sparked interest is because it exhibits a strong anticancer activity. Ellagic acid protects the DNA and RNA from damage specifically the chromosomes. Studies also found that it blocks damage from cancer causing pollutants and hydrocarbons that are found in cigarette smoke, which is an increasing problem especially to those who live in cities. Damage from other toxic chemicals like benzopyrene have also been thwarted.

Ellagic acid will not be found in any products for consumption, it is only found in fresh fruits and nuts. The processing, cooking and combination of materials to make packaged products destroys many of the vitamins and beneficial contents like ellagic acid. The tests on most packaged products showed zero percent of ellagic acid. Other tests showed nearly untraceable amounts. So basically, there is no benefits of ellagic acid except for the fresh produce which it naturally occurs.

Two fruits worth mentioning are the pomegranate (also known as the Chinese apple) and the red raspberry. Pomegranates contain 40% ellagic acid. Red raspberries contain around 1500mcg of ellagic acid. Fresh ellagic acid will be very beneficial in promoting optimum health of the body in combination with exercise and other natural supplements like apple polyphenols, chlorophyll and other natural fruit/vegetable extracts. The idea is to supply the body with healthy concentrated amounts of natural substances that can benefit the body especially during exercise.
